Our thanks to NHS Blood and Transplant for contributing to our 'on-air' report and for the use of the web copy below.
Giving blood Hospitals and clinics across the UK need more of us, from all sides of our fabulous multi-cultural community to come forward and give just under a pint of this life saving/enhancing liquid. Only 4% of the eligible population give blood and at this time of year, donations can drop yet the need for blood remains constant.
Who can give blood - Anyone aged between 17 - 65 (66 in Scotland and if you are an existing Scottish donor you can give all blood all the way until your 70) years of age, in general, good health and who weighs over 50kg can give blood. But if you have any doubt and want to find out more and locate a donor session local to you, contact one of the Blood Donor helpline numbers below or visit one of the sites highlighted (hyperlinks are in light blue)
Please remember, your donation could help save more than one person's life and blood products are involved in so many different ways of saving and enhancing lives from routine operations to helping fight cancer....And...whilst you are giving blood why not ask about becoming a bone marrow donor.
